Do You Have Toxic Residue in Your Body?
- By Tim Larson, Ph.D.
When the body's digestive fire, agni, becomes impaired, foods will not be completely digested, leaving a sticky, white, foul-smelling residue, which accumulates in the colon. This toxic residue is referred to as ama. The accumulated ama makes it more difficult for the colon to extract prana from digested food.
If neglected, ama can move from the digestive tract and enter other srotas (e.g. lymph channels, blood vessels) and obstruct their proper flow. Ama moves through the circulatory system, traveling to weak areas of the body, eventually causing disease.
A white coating on the tongue is an indicator of ama accumulation in the body.
Signs of Ama in the body include:
- White coating on tongue
- Dull skin and eyes
- Heaviness in body, head, mind
- Unpleasant taste in mouth
- Bad breath
- Bad body odor
- Cloudy, dark, urine with bad odor
- Chronic constipation or diarrhea
- Loss of appetite (food tastes bad)
- Aching joints
- Nervous sensations
- Mouth constantly fills with saliva
- Retention of wastes
- Loss of clarity
If you exhibit any of these signs of ama accumulation in your body, you might want to check the balance of your system and restore balance to prevent disease.
